So it seems that in December another film version of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend will appear in theatres. I'd say grace the screens, but I'm unsure of whether it'll grace them or come lumbering across them.

I started watching the trailer before I checked the imdb.com listing to see whether it was actually based on Matheson's book. From the first bits in the trailer, where a missile hits Manhattan, I began to think that it wasn't. And then Will Smith's voice comes over the images with "My name is Robert Neville" and then I knew it was.

So, this ought to be interesting to say the least. I'm just hoping that they remain faithful to the core of the book, because that was just such a really awesome story, with an excellent ending. If they fuck up the ending, it renders the entire thing pointless.

I could have read more, but so far I'm just glad that I'm making some strides into my To Read Pile.

So, I'm attempting the 50bookchallenge this year. I found out about this mid-way last year, and didn't get as far as I would have liked, even if I had pro-rated the amount of books.

Mostly I'm just wanting to increase the amount of books I read this year. Lord knows the stacks of To Read books are getting to be bigger than I'd like.

And so maybe 50bookchallenge will be to bookreading what embodiment might be to paper journalling. Incentive. Kinda.

Anyway, 2 4 down, 48 46 to go.

Over on a book community recently someone asked for recommendations for zombie books (because they're doing a course in school/college about zombies in popular culture -- how cool is that!). Someone actually recommended Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, because Anita's a necromancer who raises zombies for a living.

Right.

Now, I've read most of the Anita Blake series (though with all the plotless sex0r that's in there these days I'm slower and a lot more reluctant to pick up the new ones), and to call the books zombie books is a huge stretch. Even with the early books, back when Anita had a semblance of a career that didn't involve shagging, raising the dead wasn't exactly something she did all that often, or that took more than a few pages at most.

Anita Blake books zombie books indeed, pfft!
